Clean water facilities at schools - Westcombe Charitable Foundation

Children from Govt schools in India often do not have access to clean drinking water and dishwashing areas. There have been many cases of children falling sick after drinking water from hand pumps or other contaminated water sources. Also, with no proper infrastructure available for washing dishes leads to dirty and unhygienic dishes. All children are equal in their right to access to safe drinking water facilities, and all children gain benefits through the improved hygiene practices promoted in schools. Children who are healthy and well-nourished can fully participate in school and get the most from their education. Westcombe identified Government Primary School Phase 2 as one of these schools & took the initiative to transform this scenario through Yuva. This program aims daily provision of child-friendly and sustainable safe drinking water, dishwashing area and adequate water for hand washing. In addition, water for school cleaning and food preparation and cooking. Construction or Renovation of Clean Water Stands and Dishwashing Area and Installation of Reverse Osmosis Units. The RO water purifiers, Dishwashing Area and Storage tanks are long term installations, this project will potentially benefit thousands more children over the years. Having safe water facilities and common dishwashing area in schools promotes equity. Our contribution helped bring smiles on the faces of 630 students by transforming schools in Chandigarh, Punjab.
