Food is a human necessity like air and water it should be available! The Covid pandemic has had a profound effect on the lives of millions of people in the UK, sweeping hundreds of thousands of people into poverty and debt. Those who were already experiencing disadvantage, including people on low incomes, with disabilities/long-term health conditions have been particularly hardest hit. It has exacerbated an ever greater number of people to resort to food banks to put food on the table for themselves and their families. Covid and the huge rises in gas and electricity are likely to drive more families than ever to need a food bank, many for the first time. Westcombe foundation in partnership with Trussell Trust and have successfully managed to meet the needs of the destitute, hungry and vulnerable residents during the pandemic.
